  • No age restrictions on importing used vehicles from Japan.

Mandatory Inspection:

  • No inspection required for vehicles imported into Botswana.

Shipping Information:

  • Destination Port: Durban, South Africa (vehicles transported onward by land)
  • Shipping Method: RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off), with transit times of approximately 24-34 days
  • Shipping Schedule: Weekly sailings via Mediterranean Shipping Company

Duties and Taxes:

  • VAT: 12% of vehicle’s imported value
  • Total customs duty: approximately 27% of vehicle’s CIF value (cost, insurance, and freight)
  • Duty-free importation is possible under certain conditions:
  • One duty-free car per family allowed (imported within 6 months from issuance of Work Permit)
  • Subsequent vehicles per family incur 15-20% VAT on CIF value
